And then I burned out. I was miserable at work. All I could think about was being in my shop. I wasn't doing the company I worked for any favors by staying and I wasn't being true to myself either.
So in March of 2006, I quit my job, sold the house, moved the shop and started my own business building custom furniture, frames, fireplace mantels and displays for collectibles.
Looking back, it seems so obvious that I should have been a furniture maker from the beginning. Oh well, I guess there's no sense in dwelling on that. All I know is that I have finally discovered my life's work. I love what I do.
